MIDNIGHT PASS ROAD HOUSE | SIESTA KEY, FLORIDA
The Midnight Pass Road House, located on Siesta Key, is an extensive addition and renovation of a 14,000+ square-foot postmodern residence originally constructed in the early 1990s. The 1+ acre property lies within the Sanderling Club, bordered by Midnight Pass Road to the east and Heron Lagoon to the west.
The project scope included the construction of multiple new structures, along with a comprehensive redesign of the site’s landscape and hardscape. The eastern edge of the property was redefined through the addition of a new masonry site wall and a vehicular entry gate accessed from Midnight Pass Road.
The home’s front entry was completely rebuilt, featuring new cast-in-place concrete stairs finished with porcelain pavers, custom-fabricated aluminum railings with perforated aluminum panels, and a newly constructed roof structure above the entry. A Slimpact frameless glass front door completes the updated approach.
Located on the north side of the swimming pool, the exterior cabana is constructed of steel, concrete, and masonry. Its walls are clad in Corian® solid surface panels, mechanically attached to the masonry using the Keil invisible fixing system. The cabana accommodates an outdoor kitchen and dining area, as well as a lounge space equipped with an exterior television and gas fireplace.
Spanning over 114 feet in length and holding more than 11,000 gallons, the swimming pool extends across the full width of the residence. Program elements include a dedicated swim lane, spa, and multiple sun shelves. At the south end, the pool structure passes beneath a cantilevered concrete beam that supports a concrete wall above, creating a seamless transition between the pool wall and the upper roof-supporting wall.
A 47-foot-wide cast-in-place concrete stair run connects the house to the pool deck. Finished with porcelain pavers that integrate seamlessly with the surrounding pool deck, the stair is sheltered by a flat roof plane supported by steel columns. This roof element provides a transitional canopy between the main residence and the lower cabana roof beyond.
